Weekly review template: records, obstacles and one next step

By ChangeLoop 7 · Published · Updated

A weekly review template is a set of prompts for recording what you planned, what actually happened, what got in the way and one adjustment to try next week.

The review connects daily actions to the longer-term change you want. You do not need a perfect week or a long essay. Use the records you have and label gaps as unrecorded. A count of completed actions says what was reported, not whether a method caused an improvement.

Steps you can use this week

  1. Restate the original goal

Write your desired change, the small action you planned and the cue you expected to use. Compare the week with that plan rather than changing the target after seeing the result.

  2. Separate records from gaps

Count Done, Not done and days with no record separately. Note any smaller fallback you used without relabeling the original action as complete.

  3. Describe one observed obstacle

Write a concrete situation from the week, such as 'I did not have the book when I was away'. Avoid turning an incomplete record into a conclusion about your personality or motivation.

  4. Judge usefulness with uncertainty

Ask whether the action was useful, somewhat useful or still uncertain. A small sample of self-reported days does not establish a proven result.

  5. Choose one next step

Decide whether to keep the action, reduce it or change the cue. Explain which observation led to that choice, then set the next seven-day review point.

The change I want:

The action and cue I planned:

My records: __ Done / __ Not done / __ unrecorded

One thing I noticed, including an obstacle:

Usefulness: useful / somewhat useful / not sure

One adjustment I choose for the next cycle:

Fictional example · not a customer result

Filled example: a week of reading

Original goal
Read regularly, starting with one page after lunch.
Recorded actions
4 Done, 2 Not done, 1 unrecorded. I will not count the missing entry as a completed action.
Observation
Reading was easy at home. On days away, I did not have my book. The cue alone did not solve access to it.
Usefulness
Somewhat useful. These records help me pick an adjustment, but they do not prove a lasting habit.
Next-cycle decision
I choose to carry a small book and keep the one-page action. I will compare home and away days at the next review.

This is an illustrative user's decision, not an AI diagnosis or evidence that a lasting habit has formed.

Questions you might have

What should I include in a weekly review?

Include the original goal, recorded actions, gaps, one observation and a next-step decision. Keep facts separate from guesses so that the next plan responds to something you actually noticed.

Can I review a week when I barely completed anything?

Yes, an incomplete week can still be reviewed. Describe what was recorded and what is unknown, then choose a more manageable action or cue without inventing successful days.

How long does a ChangeLoop 7 review need to be?

The app asks for 40 to 1,600 characters on Day 7, plus a usefulness choice. Daily check-ins are Done or Not done; observations and obstacles belong in the weekly written review.

Will AI automatically adjust my next week?

No, the next-cycle preview does not silently change your plan. You decide what to try next; the example on this page is a fictional user's choice, not an AI-generated recommendation.

Is this weekly review template free?

Yes, this public template is free to read and use without an account. The app's first complete cycle is also free; starting cycle two requires a subscription at the launch price of $24.99/month or $239/year.
